Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about ListFerret and its tools.

General

What is ListFerret?

ListFerret is a set of free, privacy-friendly text and list tools that run in your browser. It includes an Email Extractor, Compare Lists, Remove Duplicates, Sort Lines, List Converter, Word Counter and Case Converter.

Is ListFerret really free?

Yes. All tools are free to use with no sign-up and no usage limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There are no accounts. Open a tool and use it.

Is my data uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser with JavaScript. The text you paste and the files you drop are never sent to our servers. See our Privacy Policy.

Does it work offline or on mobile?

The tools work on modern desktop and mobile browsers. Once a page has loaded, the processing itself does not need a network connection.

How large a list can I process?

Because everything runs in your browser, the limit is your device’s memory. Lists of hundreds of thousands of lines work on most computers.

Email Extractor

How do I extract emails from text or a web page?

Paste the text (or a page’s View Source) into the input box. Addresses appear instantly in the output box. You can also drop .txt, .csv, .html, .eml or .json files.

Does it remove duplicate emails?

Yes, by default and case-insensitively. The counters show how many matches, duplicates and filtered items there were.

Can it find obfuscated addresses such as name [at] domain [dot] com?

Yes. Enable “Decode obfuscated addresses” to catch bracketed at/dot patterns, HTML entities, URL-encoded characters and Cloudflare-protected emails.

Can I extract only emails from one domain, or exclude some?

Yes. Use the include and exclude filters, or click a domain in the Top domains panel. You can also remove role addresses (info@, support@) and free-mail providers.

Which export formats are supported?

Plain text with your choice of separator (new line, comma, semicolon, tab, pipe, custom), CSV with count and domain, and JSON. You can also group addresses into batches.

Why was an address I expected not found?

Check that “Validate top-level domain” is not rejecting an uncommon domain ending, and that the text actually contains the full address. Images and PDFs must be converted to text first.

Remove Duplicates, Sort Lines & List Converter

How do I remove duplicate lines?

Paste your list into Remove Duplicates. Each line appears once in the output, in its original order. You can also keep only the repeated lines or only the lines that appear once.

How do I sort a list so that item 2 comes before item 10?

In Sort Lines, choose Natural sort. It reads the numbers inside text as numbers.

How do I turn a column from Excel into a comma-separated list?

Paste the column into the List Converter. The default output separator is a comma and space, and you can wrap each item in quotes for SQL or code.

Word Counter & Case Converter

How are words counted?

The Word Counter counts any run of letters or numbers as a word, treating hyphenated words and contractions as one word each.

Which case styles are supported?

The Case Converter supports UPPER, lower, Title, Sentence, Capitalize Each Word, alternating, inverse, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, CONSTANT_CASE, kebab-case, Train-Case, dot.case and path/case.

Compare Lists

How do I find items in one list but not the other?

Paste the lists into List A and List B. “A only” shows items missing from B, and “B only” shows items missing from A.

What is the difference between intersection and union?

The intersection (A ∩ B) is the items found in both lists. The union (A ∪ B) is every unique item from either list.

Can I compare case-insensitively or ignore spaces and leading zeros?

Yes. These are options above the results and are applied to matching only — your original text is kept in the output.

Can I compare one column of a CSV file?

Yes. Enter a column number and each row is matched on that column while the full row is preserved.

What is the similarity percentage?

It is the number of items in both lists divided by the number of unique items across both lists (Jaccard similarity).

Can I chain comparisons?

Yes. Use “Send to” under any result to move it into List A or List B and compare it against another list.
