Frequently asked questions
How does the word counter count words?
A word is any run of letters or numbers, including hyphenated words (well-known) and contractions (don’t), which each count as one word.
What is the difference between characters and characters without spaces?
“Characters” counts everything including spaces and line breaks. “Characters (no spaces)” leaves out all whitespace. Most platform limits use the first figure.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time uses an average adult silent reading speed of 238 words per minute. Speaking time uses 150 words per minute.
What is keyword density?
Keyword density is how often a word appears as a percentage of all words. It helps you spot repetition and check that a target keyword appears naturally.
What are good length limits for SEO?
Page titles are typically shown up to about 60 characters and meta descriptions up to about 160 before search engines truncate them.
Does it work for Chinese, Japanese or Korean text?
Character counts are accurate for any language. Word counts rely on spaces between words, so they are less meaningful for languages written without them.
Is my text saved or uploaded?
No. Counting happens in your browser and your text is never sent anywhere.
